The Players

I own everything from Masters of Stone up to the Dosage series. Getting into the personalities and looking at what it means to be a pro climber could be interesting though. Or it could be totally gratuitous.

The Scoop

I
t doesn’t matter if we publish it 30 minutes before the competition, we were still first. And, today with our 24 hour news cycle, the scoops seem to be getting shorter and shorter everyday. Most of the time news is published almost simultaneously.
Does this mean the scoop is irrelevant?
I don’t think so. It’s just different. First to know status is becoming more and more important in social circles every day. This shifts the challenge in journalism today. It’s all about delivery.
Readers need to get the news from us first and each reader needs to receive it through their own preferred channel. Is your RSS feed your life line? Is Twitter your new favorite? Are you chained to your blackberry or is Outlook open 24/7 on your desktop?
Timely news, quick delivery, and easy content sharing. Make every reader the first to know the news. That’s what readers want.

Bears!
Posted: May 14, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a comment »Steve Casimiro over at The Adventure Life just learned that rocky Mountain National lPark is requiring Bear Canisters for all backpackers this season. A lot of folks on the east coast don’t get this, but its vital to understand: East Coast bears are wimps compared to the ones West of the Mississippi.
The only time I’ve ever used a canister was backcountry climbing in Tuolumne, and it was a few epic nights. After having a bear walk right into our campground and head straight for our Mac & Cheese cooking on the stove (we managed to scare him off with the help of a scout troop camping nearby) we spent a sleepless night listening to claws clacking on rocks around our tent and scraping against the bear cannister we wedged between two large rocks.
I definately would not want to be in bear country without a canister.
Gotta Love Campy…
Posted: May 13, 2009 Filed under: Uncategorized Leave a comment »I just pulled one of my old crit bikes out of a corner of my garage – I’m riding more lately and I was thinking about fixing it up with the new SRAM gruppo. It’s always been a good bike – not the best in the world, but it handles well, its relatively light, and its bombproof. I built it up with a Campy Daytona 10-speed gruppo a long time ago.
Last night, I threw it up on the stand for the first time in over a year. I quickly cleaned the chain, lubed the cables, and ran it through all of the gears. It shifted flawlessly.
I rode it this morning, and it still shifted flawlessly. I didn’t even have to touch the barrel adjusters.
So, I think I’ll postpone that new Gruppo for a few more years.
